2024 Paris Olympics

Mason, OH native Carson Foster became the first athlete with Cincinnati ties to win a medal at these games. Winning the bronze medal in last Sunday’s 400-meter men’s individual medley. France’s Leon Marchand won the race with an Olympic-record time of 4:02.95. Japan’s Tomoyuki Matsushita won the silver medal. Foster will compete in the men’s 200-meter individual medley on Thursday. Racing in heat two at 5:44 AM (all times Eastern U.S.). Live coverage will air on Peacock, the heat will be rebroadcast Thursday at 10:15 AM on NBC.

Also in the water, Walnut Hills alumnus Nina Castagna’s Olympic competition began over the weekend. Castagna is competing for Team USA in women’s rowing. The team narrowly missed out on automatically qualifying for the final. Yet, team USA have qualified for the repechage round this Thursday. Giving them a chance to qualify for this Saturday’s final. Thursday’s repechage round in the women’s eight competition begins at 4:10 AM. For the super early risers out there, coverage can be seen on NBCOlympics.com and Peacock.

The U.S. men’s basketball team will face South Sudan on Wednesday. Cincinnati native Carlik Jones is part of South Sudan’s roster. Wednesday’s Team USA vs South Sudan’s game will be at 3:00 PM in Lille, France. The game can be seen on USA Network and Peacock. Team USA will conclude group play against Puerto Rico on Saturday at 11:00 AM. That game will air on NBC and Telemundo. South Sudan will play Serbia this Saturday at 3:00 PM on CNBC.

Olympic competition is already underway for Cincinnati’s representatives in volleyball. The U.S. Women’s Volleyball Team, featuring UC alumnus Jordan Thompson began play on Monday. With a full five-set loss to China in their opening pool play game. Team USA plays Serbia Wednesday at 11:00 AM on USA Network. Then concludes pool play against France on Sunday at 7:00 AM on NBC and Peacock.

In men’s volleyball, Team USA’s Olympic tournament began last weekend. Winning a three-set sweep over Argentina last Saturday. The U.S. men’s team features Purcell Marian High School alumnus Max Holt. Team USA will play Germany Tuesday at 7:00 AM. Pool play concludes Friday with the U.S. facing Japan at 3:00 PM. Both games will air live on USA Network.

In soccer, group stage play concludes for Team USA this week. The U.S. Women’s National Team will play Australia on Wednesday. Coverage begins at 12:30 PM on E! and 1:00 PM on NBC Universo. Cincinnati natives Aubrey Kingsbury and Rose Lavelle are part of the USWNT’s Olympic roster. The USWNT have breezed through the group stage so far. With wins over Zambia and Germany last week.

UC alumnus Vanessa Gilles is part of Canada’s women’s national team. Canada is already two thirds of the way through group stage play. Concluding that stage on Wednesday at 3:00 PM against Columbia. That game can be seen on NBC Universo, NBCOlympics.com and Peacock. A controversy has marred Canada’s hopes to defend their gold medal from the Tokyo Olympics. Amid accusations that Canadian staff spied on an opponent with a drone. Prompting the suspension of Canada’s head coach Bev Priestman, a FIFA punishment and an apology.

FC Cincinnati player Miles Robinson and the U.S. men’s national team face Guinea on Tuesday. Kickoff in that match is set for 1:00 PM on USA Network and Telemundo. The U.S. goes into Tuesday with a win and a loss in group play. Team USA is guaranteed to advance to the quarterfinals with a win by two goals. Going into Tuesday, Team USA is in second place in their group via the goal differential tiebreaker. Which would be good enough to qualify for the quarterfinals. The U.S. and New Zealand have three match-points; France leads the group with six.

Cincinnati Bengals Training Camp open practices

The Bengals will have their first open practices of camp Monday. More open practices will happen on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday. Gates will open for each practice at 1:30 PM. Practices are set to run from 2:15-4:10 PM. More information on training camp is available on Bengals.com.

Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Week

This year’s hall of fame class will be inducted this weekend in Canton, OH. Enshrinement week festivities begin in earnest with the Hall of Fame Game on Thursday. With the Chicago Bears and Houston Texans playing at 8 PM. Thursday’s game can be seen on ESPN, ABC, ESPN Deportes and ESPN+. Radio coverage is available on Westwood One. The enshrinement ceremony will be Saturday at Noon on ESPN. This year’s inductees are Dwight Freeney, Randy Gradishar, Devin Hester, Andre Johnson, Steve McMichael, Julius Peppers and Patrick Willis.
