In this preview, the Summer Olympics begin this week. FC Cincinnati heads into their all-star break while the Cincinnati Reds struggle after their break. Plus, Cincinnati hosts two summer basketball events this week.

2024 Summer Olympics

The Olympics return to Paris for the first time in a century this week. While the opening ceremony won’t be until Friday. Olympic competition begins in earnest on Wednesday with men’s soccer and rugby sevens. The U.S. men’s soccer and rugby sevens teams will play France on Wednesday. The rugby match is set to begin at 10:30 AM on Peacock and NBCOlympics.com. Meanwhile, the soccer match is set to start at 3:00 PM on USA Network, Peacock and NBCOlympics.com. There will be archery, women’s soccer, team handball and rugby sevens action on Thursday.

NBC’s coverage of Friday’s opening ceremony will begin at 12:00 PM. The event officially begins at 1:30 PM. NBC will air a primetime encore of the ceremony at 7:30 PM. Meanwhile, there will be a few watch parties around Cincinnati for Friday’s ceremony. Alliance Francaise and Le Bar a boeuf will co-host a free watch party from 2-5 PM. Le bar a boeuf is located at 2200 Victory Parkway in Cincinnati.

Newport on the Levee will also host a free party on Friday. People can watch the opening ceremony on LED screens at 2:30 PM. Newport on the Levee’s Olympic kickoff party will run from 5-10 PM. FC Cincinnati’s website also features an extensive list of Olympic soccer watch party locations. Cincy Sports Journal will have a preview of locals to watch in the Olympics later this week.

MLS All-Star Game in Columbus, OH

FC Cincinnati midfielder Luciano Acosta will serve as the MLS All-Star team captain. FCC players Luca Orellano and Miles Robinson were also named to the MLS All-Star team. Acosta and Robinson were voted onto the roster by fans. Orellano is a coach’s selection, he might be the only FC Cincinnati representative to play in the game. Since Robinson is in Paris with the U.S. Olympic men’s soccer team. Acosta’s status for Wednesday is unclear, he suffered a foot injury on July 13th. He came off the bench during FC Cincinnati’s road loss to the New York Red Bulls.

The Basketball Tournament

Cincinnati regional play in this year’s TBT will conclude on Tuesday. Xavier and Cincinnati’s alumni teams were knocked out in the first round. None of the top four seeds in this region will be in Cincinnati’s regional final. Instead, No.5 seed Red Rose Thunder will play No.7 seed Takeover BC. Tuesday’s game will tip-off at 7:00 PM at Fifth Third Arena. The game will stream for free on the TBT Live platform.

Big 3 Basketball

There’s more summer basketball action coming to Cincinnati this week. Big 3, a three-on-three league founded by rapper/actor Ice Cube, will play games this Sunday in Cincinnati. Sunday’s games will be at Heritage Bank Center. The first game is set to tip off at 1 PM. Sunday’s games will air on CBS and stream on Paramount+.

Cincinnati Bengals Training Camp

The Bengals will have their first training camp practices this week. Starting Wednesday with a practice open only to season ticket and waitlist members. More practices will take place on Thursday, Friday and Sunday afternoon. Those practices will only be open to season ticket, waitlist and club members. The first practice open to the general public will be on July 29th. All training camp practices will take place at the Kettering Health Practice Fields. Located right outside of Paycor Stadium in Cincinnati.
