American soccer is taking advantage of one of the quietest days in American sports. The day after the MLB All-Star Game is typically the only day of the year; when none of the big four major leagues have games. Major League Soccer and the CONCACAF Gold Cup semifinals are filling the void. More on the Gold Cup is featured below. FC Cincinnati will play the New York Red Bulls. FCC heads into that after back-to-back 2-2 ties to start July. On Saturday, FCC will have their last match before the MLS All Star and Leagues Cup break.

CONCACAF Gold Cup

The CONCACAF Gold Cup semifinals are set. After a suspenseful conclusion to the quarterfinals last Sunday in Cincinnati. The United States Men’s National Team will play Panama in their semifinal match on Wednesday. After beating Canada in a penalty shootout Sunday night at TQL Stadium. FC Cincinnati player Brandon Vazquez scored a goal in the second half. Giving the USMNT a 1-0 lead in the 88th minute. Canada’s Steven Vitoria later scored an equalizing penalty goal to force extra time.

Canada’s Jacob Shaffelburg scored a goal in extra time to give them a 2-1 lead. A lead Canada squandered moments later through an own goal. An own goal set into motion by U.S. and FC Cincinnati center back Matt Miazga. Which forced the game into a decisive penalty shootout. Meanwhile, the USMNT’s semifinal opponent Panama beat Qatar in the quarterfinals 4-0 last Saturday. Wednesday’s USMNT semifinal match in San Diego, CA will start at 7:30 PM on FS1 and Univision.

Jamaica will play Mexico in the second semifinal match. Jamaica beat Guatemala 1-0 to start last Sunday’s doubleheader at Cincinnati’s TQL Stadium. Mexico beat Costa Rica 2-0 in their quarterfinal match last Saturday. Jamaica and Mexico will play Wednesday at 10 PM in Las Vegas, NV on FS1. Wednesday’s winners will play in Sunday’s final. Taking place in Los Angeles at 7:30 PM on FOX.

Wimbledon

Tennis’ Wimbledon Championships will conclude this weekend in England. All three of the Cincinnati area’s Wimbledon representatives are out of contention. Caty McNally and Peyton Stearns lost their first round matches last Monday. They also lost their respective doubles first round matches. McNally partnered with Ashlyn Krueger and Stearns partnered with Alycia Parks for doubles.

JJ Wolf advanced the furthest of the three Cincinnati area players. Wolf advanced to the second round in men’s singles play. Losing to Kazakhstan’s Alexander Bublik last Thursday. Wolf and doubles partner Christopher Eubanks lost yesterday to French duo Sadio Doumbia and Fabien Reboul. Eubanks upset No.5 seed Stefanos Tsitsipas earlier today.
