In this preview, college basketball’s championship week is in full swing. Thomas More Women’s Basketball will host their first round NAIA Tournament game. Plus, FC Cincinnati hosts the Seattle Sounders this Saturday.
Men’s College Basketball
Northern Kentucky will play in the Horizon League Tournament semifinals Monday night. The No.4 seed NKU Norse will face top seed Youngstown State tonight at 7 PM (all times Eastern). At the Indiana Farmers Coliseum in Indianapolis, IN. The game can be seen on ESPNU and NKU’s radio broadcast will be on WSAI-AM (1360). The winner will face either No.2 seed Milwaukee or No.3 seed Cleveland State. In Tuesday’s Horizon League Championship Game at 7 PM on ESPN or ESPN2. The Horizon League bracket is available here.
Xavier will be the No.2 seed in the Big East Tournament. Taking place at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Xavier will play in the quarterfinals this Thursday at 7 PM on FS1 and WLW-AM (700). Against either No.7 seed Seton Hall or No.10 seed DePaul. If Xavier wins, they will play either No.3 seed Creighton, No.6 seed Villanova or No.11 seed Georgetown. In Friday’s second semifinal game at 9 PM on FS1.
Xavier will have to fare without Zach Freemantle on the court. He will miss the rest of the season due to foot surgery. Freemantle’s missed the last month of the season due to a left foot injury. Despite Freemantle’s injury, Xavier heads into the Big East Tournament in a better position compared to recent years. They’re in good shape to qualify for the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2018.
Cincinnati will be the No.4 seed in the American Athletic Conference Tournament. They will face No.5 seed Temple in the quarterfinals on Friday. That game is set to tip off at 3 PM at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, TX. Friday’s game can be seen on ESPN2 and heard on WLW-AM (700). The AAC Tournament bracket is available here.
Thomas More will travel to Butte, MT for the first round of the NAIA Tournament. The No.5 seed TMU Saints will play No.12 seed Eastern Oregon Tuesday at 7 PM. Tuesday’s game can be seen on Montana Tech Athletics’ YouTube channel. If Thomas More wins, they will play either No.4 Montana Tech or No.13 Westmont (CA). In a second-round game Wednesday at 9 PM in Butte, MT.
Women’s College Basketball
While Thomas More’s Men’s Basketball team will be in Montana. No.1 seed Thomas More’s Women’s Basketball team will host their NAIA Tournament first round game. Taking on No.16 seed Point University this Tuesday at 5:30 PM. At the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, KY. Tuesday’s game can be seen on team1sports.com/thomasmore. The winner of Tuesday’s game will face either No.8 seed Concordia (NE) or No.9 seed Columbia (MO). In a second-round game in Crestview Hills this Wednesday at 6 PM.
At the NCAA Division I level, No.5 seed Northern Kentucky will face No.2 seed Cleveland State. In the Horizon League Tournament semifinals Monday at 2:30 PM on ESPN+. Taking place at the Indiana Farmers Coliseum in Indianapolis. The winner of that game will face either No.1 seed Green Bay or No.6 seed Purdue Fort Wayne. In Tuesday’s championship game at Noon on ESPNU.
Cincinnati is the No.11 seed in the AAC Tournament. Which like the men’s tournament will be at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, TX. Cincinnati will play No.6 seed Tulane Monday at 6 PM on ESPN+. If Cincinnati wins tonight, they will play No.3 seed East Carolina. In a quarterfinal game Tuesday at 9 PM on ESPN+.
Meanwhile, Xavier is looking for a new women’s basketball head coach. After mutually parting ways with Melanie Moore after a four-year tenure on Monday. Xavier lost in the first round of the Big East Tournament last week. Wrapping up their season with a winless record in Big East play and a 7-23 overall record. Moore’s tenure featured a significant academic achievement for the program. Last year, Ayanna Townsend achieved program history. As the first Musketeer to be named Big East Women’s Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
