The Bengals will host the Rams in a rematch of last February’s Super Bowl. This rematch might be the most robust game for Cincinnati’s typical starters. Many prominent starters didn’t play in the first two preseason games. The Bengals and Rams will also have joint practices this week. One area the Bengals will strive to improve on this Saturday is avoiding penalties.
Cincinnati has 19 penalties compared to opponents nine so far this preseason. Those penalties cost the Bengals in their preseason games. The most notable one being rookie Cordell Volson’s false start with nine seconds to go. In last night’s 22-25 road loss to the New York Giants. Knocking the Bengals out of range for a potential game-tying field goal.
Another concern going into Saturday’s preseason finale is the Bengals depth. The Bengals defensive bench players were outpaced by the rebuilding Giants. Giving New York all the room they needed for their winning drive. Meanwhile, the Bengals offense is helping kicker Evan McPherson get his reps in. McPherson has had several 50+ yard field goal attempts this preseason. While it’s awesome that the Bengals have a dependable kicker. Bengals fans might be fine with McPherson having a few “chip shot” attempts on Saturday.
FC Cincinnati vs. Columbus Crew
Saturday at 7:30 PM on WSTR-TV (64), ESPN+ and WSAI-AM (1360).
FC Cincinnati is striving to get back into their conference’s playoff race. After their 1-1 tie last Saturday at the New York Red Bulls; kept them out of their conference’s top seven. FC Cincinnati will have a massive opportunity to climb back into the top seven. Against their “Hell is Real” derby rivals from Columbus. The Crew are in seventh place with 35 match points. One point ahead of Cincinnati going into this week. Columbus beat Cincinnati in their last meeting 2-0 back on July 17th in Columbus.
