In this preview, the Cincinnati Reds approach the trade deadline and a road trip. FC Cincinnati hosts the leading team in their conference. While the countdown to football season continues.
MLB Trade Deadline
Major League Baseball’s trade deadline is Tuesday at 6 PM Eastern. Last week, the Cincinnati Reds did what many expected them to do. Trade Luis Castillo, the most buzzed about pitcher at the trade rumor mill. Castillo was traded late last Friday to the Seattle Mariners for four of their top prospects. Including shortstops Noelvi Marte and Edwin Arroyo. Marte is now the Reds top rated prospect according to MLB Pipeline and MLB.com Reds writer Mark Sheldon. Plus, right-handed pitchers Levi Stoudt and Andrew Moore.
The Reds also traded outfielder Tyler Naquin. Along with Cincinnati native and Triple-A relief pitcher Phillip Diehl to the New York Mets. In exchange for minor leaguers Jose Acuna and Hector Rodriguez. Acuna is a right-handed pitcher and Rodriguez is an outfielder. After trading Eugenio Suarez and Jesse Winker to Seattle earlier this year. Along with adding Castillo, the Reds could be informally considered a Mariners farm team. The contending Mariners are picking up where the 2021 Reds left off.
Hopefully for Seattle’s sake, the Mariners will fare better in late August and September. Compared to how the Reds did in those months last year. Heading closer to Tuesday’s deadline, Tyler Mahle is another Reds pitcher teams are buzzing about. We’ll find out by Tuesday night whether the Reds bid him or anyone else adieu. Ultimately, the Reds might keep Mahle to have veteran experience in a rotation mostly featuring rookies.
