In this week’s preview, FC Cincinnati and this Cincinnati Reds face rivals this week. While Xavier and Cincinnati Basketball alums reunite on the court. Plus, the United States hosts two major international events.
FC Cincinnati’s week ahead
After a feisty 1-1 home tie last Saturday. Against the MLS’ Eastern Conference leading New York Red Bulls. FC Cincinnati will face two games this week. First taking on the Vancouver Whitecaps this Wednesday at TQL Stadium. Then it’s the latest chapter in the “Hell is Real” Derby this Sunday. With FCC taking on the Columbus Crew in Columbus. FCC heads into this week seventh in the Eastern Conference while Columbus is eighth.

This week in Cincinnati Reds Baseball
After wrapping up the last home-stand before the MLB All-Star Break on a winning note. Through sweeping the American League East’s Tampa Bay Rays. With a mix of extra inning wins and a 10-5-win Sunday. The Reds hit the road to face the AL East leading New York Yankees this week. Then face their division rival St. Louis Cardinals in St. Louis this weekend.

All-Star Futures Game
While starting pitcher Luis Castillo will be the Reds’ lone representative in next week’s MLB All-Star Game. He won’t be the only person in the Reds organization taking part. In All-Star weekend festivities this coming weekend in Los Angeles. Reds minor leaguers Elly De La Cruz and Andrew Abbott will play in the Futures Game. A seven-inning game between National and American League prospects. Taking place at Dodger Stadium Saturday at 7 PM Eastern on Peacock and SiriusXM. The game will be rebroadcast Sunday at 9 AM Eastern on MLB Network.

Crosstown Collaborative Alumni Game
One won’t have to wait until December to see Xavier and Cincinnati Basketball face off this year. Alumni from both school’s men’s basketball teams will play each other this weekend. The alumni game will be part of a full weekend of activities. With a fan fest and basketball camps among the festivities. Taking place at both Xavier’s Cintas Center and Cincinnati’s Fifth Third Arena. The alumni game will be Saturday at 7 PM Eastern at the Cintas Center. IAAF World Championships and the 2022 World Games
It’s becoming a busy time on the international competitions beat. Wimbledon concluded this past weekend and golf’s British Open is coming up this weekend. Meanwhile, United States is hosting two major international events this month. Eugene, Oregon will host the Track and Field’s IAAF World Championships starting this Friday. The IAAF World Championships will run from Friday through July 24th. NBC broadcasting information for the World Championships is available here.
Similar to last month’s USATF Track and Field Outdoor Championships. The Universities of Cincinnati and Kentucky will be represented at the World Championships. Kentucky alums Andrew Evans, Sydney McLaughlin and Abby Steiner will compete. Evans will compete in men’s discus and McLaughlin in the women’s 400-meter hurdles. 2022 graduate Abby Steiner will compete in the 200-meter prelims next Monday. UC alum Annette Echikunwoke will compete in women’s hammer throw.
Another international event the U.S. is hosting is already underway. Birmingham, Alabama is hosting the World Games this week. Featuring sports not featured in the Olympic Games. The games will run until the closing ceremony this Sunday. World Games highlights can be seen nightly on CBS Sports Network and streaming on Paramount+ Premium.
