In this edition of Cincy Sports Journal’s Weekly Preview. FC Cincinnati prepares will strive to remain a contender with two matches this week. Plus, A look ahead to the Independence Day weekend local sports schedule.
FC Cincinnati
After beating Orlando City at home 1-0 last Friday and staying in the Eastern Conference’s top seven. FC Cincinnati will face two matches this week. Taking on New York City FC Wednesday in Cincinnati. FC Cincinnati will take on the New England Revolution this Sunday in Foxboro, Massachusetts. Both games are set to start at 7:30 PM Eastern. Both will be broadcast in Cincinnati on WSTR-TV (64) and WCKY-AM (1530). Both matches can also be seen beyond greater Cincinnati on ESPN+.
Cincinnati Reds at Chicago Cubs
Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 8:05 PM Eastern.
Reds vs. Atlanta Braves
Friday at 6:40 PM Eastern
Saturday at 4:10 PM Eastern
Sunday at 1:40 PM Eastern
Reds vs. New York Mets
Next Monday (Independence Day) at 6:40 PM Eastern.

MLB All-Star Game phase one voting closes Thursday
With less than a month to go before the MLB All-Star Game festivities in Los Angeles. The deadline to vote in phase one of All-Star voting process is Thursday at 1:59 PM Eastern. You can vote up to five times each day. In phase two, voters will select the Midsummer Classic’s starters. Phase two runs from July 5th through the 8th. The 2022 MLB All-Star ballot is available here.

USA Track and Field Championships local recap
Last week was a busy one on the Cincinnati Bearcats beat. Former Bearcat Tari Eason was selected by the Houston Rockets in the NBA Draft. Plus, five Bearcats competed in the USA Track & Field Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Oregon. Those Bearcats were Nadia Collins, Annette Echikunwoke, Annika Kinley, Kennedy Marable and Steven McElroy. Collins, Kinley and McElroy competed in the Under 20 championships. Kinley placed sixth in women’s high jump. Collins placed seventh in women’s long jump.
After competing in the NCAA Championships in Eugene earlier this month. McElroy ran in the USATF U20 Championships men’s 400-meter dash. McElroy broke his own school record to win the 400-meter dash. Setting a meet record too with a time of 44.93. Qualifying for the U20 World Championships in Cali, Columbia in early August.
Kennedy Marable and Annette Echikunwoke competed in the USATF Championships. Echikunwoke finished third in the hammer throw. Qualifying for July’s World Championships, which will also be held in Eugene. Echikunwoke, a U.S. citizen, respresented Nigeria in the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics. Ultimately not competing in those Olympics due to a testing error. She won the NCAA hammer title for UC in 2017. Marable wrapped up her USATF Outdoor Championships placing 12th in triple jump.
Meanwhile, University of Kentucky Track and Field was well-represented at the USATF Outdoor Championships. Most notably, UK alumna Sydney McLaughlin broke her own world record. To win the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 51.41 last Saturday. She was one of 19 UK Wildcats to compete in the USATF Outdoor Championships.
