2026 FIFA World Cup host cities will be announced this week

FIFA will announce whether Cincinnati hosts some 2026 World Cup matches this Thursday. Cincinnati is contending with 22 other cities across the United States, Mexico and Canada. The announcement is set to happen at approximately 5 PM Eastern. Along with local media coverage, Thursday’s announcement can be seen on FIFA’s YouTube channel. A Spanish language broadcast of the announcement can be seen on Universo and fuboTV at 5 PM.

FC Cincinnati vs. Philadelphia Union

After two weeks off, FC Cincinnati will face the Philadelphia Union on the road this Saturday. The match features several connections between FCC and Philadelphia. FC Cincinnati’s general manager Chris Albright is a Philadelphia native. He joined FCC last year after previously serving as Philadelphia’s technical director. FC Cincinnati’s manager Pat Noonan was also previously Philadelphia’s assistant coach. Saturday’s FCC vs. Philadelphia Union match is set to start at 7:30 PM Eastern. The match can be seen on WSTR-TV (64) and heard on WCKY-AM (1530).

College Baseball

The field for the NCAA DI College World Series is mostly set. Notre Dame is the lone team closest to Cincinnati advancing to the CWS in Omaha, NE. Notre Dame upset top overall seed Tennessee’s national championship hopes. Through winning their best-of-three Super Regional series two games to one. Meanwhile, Texas A&M swept Louisville in the Super Regionals.

Notre Dame will take on Texas in Omaha either Friday or Saturday. Then face either the winner or loser between Texas A&M and Oklahoma. In the double elimination portion of the College World Series. The schedule for this College World Series will be announced later this Monday.

NCAA DI Outdoor Track and Field Championships local recap

Three University of Cincinnati Track and Field athletes participated in last weekend’s NCAA Championship Meet in Eugene, OR. Senior Ellie Leather wrapped up her collegiate career in the women’s 1500-meter final. Leather placed 11th in the event with a time of 4:13.37. Leather concludes her collegiate career with five school records. Plus, All-American honors in indoor and outdoor competitions this year.

Freshman Steven McElroy finished 19th in the men’s 400-meter dash semifinals. McElroy is the first Cincinnati Bearcat to compete in the event. He holds the school and American Athletic Conference record in the event. McElroy will return to Eugene later this month. For the American Under 20 Championship meet running June 24-26. In women’s javelin, UC sophomore Leonie Troeger finished 21st with a 50.34-meter throw. Elsewhere locally, Kentucky’s women’s team placed third in the meet.
