In this football centered review, Cincinnati Football continues to move up in the polls. Plus, the Cincinnati Bengals have one of their largest wins of the season to date.

Cincinnati Football moves up to No.2 in AP Poll

Jerome Ford helped lead Cincinnati Football from No.3 to No.2 in the AP Top 25. Through boosting Cincinnati to a 56-21 home win last Saturday against UCF Football. Ford scored four first half rushing touchdowns in the game. Becoming the first Cincinnati player to score four rushing touchdowns in a game since Isaiah Pead in 2010. The Cincinnati Bearcats led 35-0 at one point in the first half.

While Ford led the game rushing-wise with 20 carries for 189 yards. He wasn’t the only major factor for the Bearcats’ rushing game. Ethan Wright and backup quarterback Evan Prater scored rushing touchdowns. Alec Pierce had Cincinnati’s lone touchdown reception. On defense, Deshawn Pace and Coby Bryant snagged the lone interceptions of the game.

Purdue Football also helped Cincinnati move up in the AP poll. Through an upset win against then No.2 Iowa Football. Purdue won 24-7 on the road last Saturday; ending Iowa’s week of ranking second. Purdue moved into the top 25 (No.25) through the win. While Iowa dropped out of the top ten to rank No.11 in the latest poll.

Elsewhere on a local note last Saturday, Kentucky Football wound up on the losing side. Of what was considered College Football’s biggest game of the weekend going into it. No.1 Georgia Football beat Kentucky 30-13 in Athens, GA. Handing now No.15 Kentucky their first loss of the season. After Kentucky’s first 6-0 start since the Bear Bryant era in the 1950’s.

Along with that, Ohio Football quarterback Armani Rogers set a record. Through a 99 touchdown run in their game last Saturday against Buffalo Football. The longest touchdown run by a quarterback in NCAA history. Buffalo came back to win 27-26 through a last second field goal. In a wild highlight-packed game between two sub .500 teams.

Coming up this weekend, No.2 Cincinnati will travel to Annapolis, MD to take on Navy Football. That game is set to kickoff Saturday at Noon Eastern time on ESPN2. Elsewhere among ranked local teams; No.15 Kentucky has a bye week. Their next game is October 30th at Mississippi State Football. After a bye week for Notre Dame and Ohio State Football. Indiana Football will host No.5 Ohio State Saturday at 7:30 PM Eastern on ABC. No.13 Notre Dame will host USC Football at the same day and time on NBC.

Cincinnati Bengals win convincingly against the Detroit Lions

The Cincinnati Bengals won by their largest margin of the season to date. Through their 34-11 win Sunday on the road against the win-less Detroit Lions. The Bengals dominated the game in several ways. Cincinnati dominated in the possession category 35:52 to 24:08. The Bengals also led the game in yards with 256 passing and 142 rushing. Compared to Detroit’s 192 passing and 36 rushing yards. Cincinnati also outpaced Detroit in first downs 20-15.

While the Bengals never trailed in Sunday’s game. Cincinnati gave Detroit room to make it a close game until the second half. Cincinnati led 10-0 going into the halftime break. Through Chris Evans scoring his first career touchdown in the first quarter. Plus, Evan McPherson’s field goal to end the first half. After winning and losing games through late and overtime field goals. The game didn’t come down to the kickers for Cincinnati or Detroit.

Cincinnati turned the game into a blowout in the second half. Starting with Joe Mixon’s 40 yard touchdown reception with 10:40 to go in the third quarter. McPherson made the extra point and a field goal later in the third. C.J. Uzomah scored a touchdown in the fourth; McPherson’s extra point gave Cincinnati a 27-0 lead. The man McPherson competed with to be Cincinnati’s main kicker got Detroit on the board.

Austin Seibert kicked a 35-yard fourth quarter field goal to make it 27-3. Cincinnati wide receiver Auden Tate later scored a touchdown. Brandon Allen took over for Joe Burrow as Cincinnati’s quarterback by then. Burrow fared well after recovering from a neck contusion that impacted his speaking abilities last week. McPherson’s extra point gave Cincinnati their largest lead 34-3. D’Andre Swift scored Detroit’s lone touchdown seconds before the two minute warning. Lions QB Jared Goff connected with Amon-Ra St. Brown for a two-point conversion.

Seibert and Goff were one of a few players having a reunion yesterday. Goff and Bengals head coach Zac Taylor were teammates with the Los Angeles Rams. When Goff was their quarterback and Taylor their quarterbacks coach. Derrick Barnes had a good day against the team based across the river from his hometown. The Lions’ rookie linebacker and Covington, KY native led the game defensively. Through a career-high nine total and six solo tackles. The Purdue alumnus also deflected a pass during the game.

Next up for the Bengals, a divisional clash against the Baltimore Ravens. This coming Sunday’s game in Baltimore is set kickoff at 1 PM Eastern on CBS. On a side note, Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson received a special honor from his collegiate alma mater. His jersey No.8 is being retired by the University of Louisville. Joining fellow Louisville alum and Baltimore gridiron legend Johnny Unitas. As the only other Louisville Football player to have their jersey number retired. The formal ceremony will happen November 13th when Louisville hosts Syracuse Football.

FC Cincinnati lost to Orlando City

Hours after the Bearcats beat Orlando-based UCF in American Football. FC Cincinnati lost 1-0 to Orlando City in the sport most of the world calls football. Across town from Nippert Stadium at FCC’s new TQL Stadium. Last Saturday’s lone goal was scored in the 13th minute by Orlando’s Junior Urso. FCC will host the Chicago Fire this Wednesday at 7:30 PM Eastern on WSTR-TV 64. In the first of two matches this week for FC Cincinnati. FCC will wrap up the week at Inter Miami Saturday at 8 PM Eastern on WSTR-TV.
