In this week’s review, Cincinnati Football slides in the AP Top 25 despite winning. Tucker Barnhart wins his second career Gold Glove Award. While FC Cincinnati ends their roller coaster season in a deluge.

The Football Review

Cincinnati Football is still undefeated after beating Houston Football 38-10 last Saturday. The Cincinnati Bearcats ultimately did what many expected them to do. Cincinnati’s offense overwhelmed Houston primarily through their rushing game. Cincinnati had 342 rushing yards while Houston had 93. Four of Cincinnati’s five touchdowns were rushing touchdowns. Quarterback Desmond Ridder ran in three of those touchdowns. All part of a stellar four touchdown day for the junior.

Despite the blowout win, Cincinnati dropped from sixth to seventh in the AP Top 25. The drop had less to do with the Bearcats and more to do with the “power five” conferences. There was a shift at the top of the poll. Due to Notre Dame’s victory against then No.1 Clemson Football. Along with the return of the Pac-12 Conference. The Pac-12 is the last power five conference to start their regular season. Next up for Cincinnati, their regular season home finale this Friday. Cincinnati will face East Carolina Football at 7:30 PM Eastern on ESPN2.

The Pac-12 wasn’t the only conference to return last week. The Mid American Conference’s regular season kicked off last Wednesday. Locally, Miami (Ohio) Football began their season with a home win. Beating Ball State Football in a 38-31 thrill ride last Wednesday. The Miami RedHawks won thanks in part to a unofficial high school reunion.

Through connections between Covington Catholic alums AJ Meyer and Jack Coldiron. Meyer entered the game after starting quarterback Brett Gabbert was sidelined by an injury. Meyer and Coldiron connected for two touchdowns. However, Miami’s Zach Kahn scored their game winning touchdown in the final ten seconds. Miami’s road opener is this Tuesday against Buffalo Football at 8 PM Eastern on ESPN.

Cincinnati Reds catcher Tucker Barnhart wins second Gold Glove

While there were many winners and losers in last Tuesday’s elections. Including former University of Cincinnati head football coach and now Senator-elect Tommy Tuberville. Last Tuesday’s biggest winner locally wasn’t a candidate for any political office. It was Reds catcher Tucker Barnhart; through winning his second career Gold Glove Award. Barnhart became the third Reds catcher in history to win multiple Gold Gloves.

Barnhart is the first of those Reds catchers not named Johnny. Johnny Edwards and Johnny Bench are the other catchers in that laudable group. Meanwhile, pitcher Trevor Bauer rejected a qualifying offer from the Reds last week. He will find out whether he’s won the National League’s Cy Young Award this Wednesday. Bauer is up against Yu Darvish from the Chicago Cubs and Jacob deGrom from the New York Mets.

COVID-19 hits the Cincinnati Bengals during bye week

The Cincinnati Bengals had a busy bye week news-wise. While the Bengals made no moves on trade deadline day last Tuesday. The Bengals are among many National Football League teams dealing with COVID-19 cases. Two Bengals players reportedly tested positive for COVID-19 last week. With their bye week now in the rear view mirror. The Bengals are gearing up to face the unbeaten Pittsburgh Steelers this coming Sunday. Kickoff in that game is set for 4:25 PM Eastern on FOX.

FC Cincinnati’s season ends on a rainy and losing note

FC Cincinnati’s roller coaster 2020 season ended in a defeat in a deluge. Losing 2-1 to MLS Playoff bound Inter Miami on Sunday. In the midst of heavy rain in the Miami area due to Tropical Storm Eta. Inter Miami jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first 23 minutes of the match. Joseph-Claude Gyau got FCC on the board in the 66th minute; through his first MLS career goal.

FCC wraps up their second Major League Soccer season with a 4-15-4 record. Similar to last season, FC Cincinnati is ending 2020 in last place in the Eastern Conference. Now their focus turns towards the 2021 season. Which will be FC Cincinnati’s first in their new West End Stadium.
