There are several questions facing the Cincinnati Bengals going into Week 11. After a blowout loss last Sunday to the Baltimore Ravens. Five questions spring to mind as the Bengals prepare for the Oakland Raiders.
What will happen with the quarterback position?
All of the first three questions all deal with the Bengals roster. The first deals with questions surrounding the quarterback position on their roster. Ryan Finley is set to be the Bengals starting quarterback this Sunday. Another quarterback-related story could leave an impact on the Bengals. With Colin Kaepernick getting an opportunity to practice in front of NFL personnel this Saturday.
Kaepernick garnered controversy for his national anthem protests in 2016. Not playing in a single NFL game since the 2016 season. From a Bengals perspective, giving Kaepernick some consideration is reasonable. The Bengals are winless and they’ve benched franchise quarterback Andy Dalton. Sure, some fans might vow to boycott Bengals games if Kaepernick joined the team. Though Paul Brown Stadium is already nearly half empty on game day’s anyway. Ultimately, the Bengals don’t have that much to lose from giving Kaepernick consideration.
Should the Bengals have A.J. Green benched for the rest of the season?
Green hasn’t appeared in a single game in this entire season. He did not participate in any practices last week or this week. Benching Green through the rest of the season is something for Cincinnati to consider. So Green can get healthy while signaling a willingness to move on without him. The Bengals could use the same approach with wide receiver John Ross.
What impact will Preston Brown’s release have on their schedule?
Cincinnati waived linebacker Preston Brown on Tuesday morning. A University of Louisville alumnus, Brown joined the Bengals in 2018. This is the Cincinnati native’s sixth season in the National Football League. He had 52 combined tackles, forced a fumble and recovered a fumble this season. Participating in all nine games played so far and starting in eight.
The Bengals have four linebackers to fill the vacancy left by Brown’s departure. Nick Vigil, Germaine Pratt, Jordan Evans and LaRoy Reynolds. Cincinnati also has Hardy Nickerson and Brady Sheldon on their practice squad. Vigil and Pratt are Cincinnati’s two first string linebackers in this week’s depth chart. Second-stringer Jordan Evans will likely have more playing time.
What’s the biggest area where improvement is needed after Week 10?
Brown was waived after an abysmal Week 9 for the Bengals defense. Cincinnati’s defense was thoroughly outpaced by the Ravens last Sunday. Making defensive improvements should be a top priority this week. While Cincinnati’s offensive line is still struggling to protect their quarterback. A problem plaguing the Bengals throughout this season.
What will the Bengals need to do to beat the Raiders?
Early season drama isn’t slowing the Raiders down at all. Oakland instead heads into Sunday with a 5-4 record. One key to Sunday’s game will be Cincinnati’s passing game. Cincinnati leads Oakland in total passing yards this season. While Oakland allowed 37 more passing yards than the Bengals have so far.
Sunday’s game between Cincinnati and Oakland will kickoff at 4:25 PM Eastern on CBS.
