This week’s review looks back at a big win for Cincinnati Football. Another loss for the Cincinnati Bengals despite a fourth quarter comeback. Plus, the end of FC Cincinnati’s season and Cincinnati Reds staff changes.

Cincinnati Football beats nationally ranked UCF Football

Cincinnati Bearcats Football earned their first win against a ranked opponent since 2009. Beating then-No.18 UCF Football 27-24 at Cincinnati’s Nippert Stadium last Friday. The Bearcats defense stepped up in clutch situations with three interceptions. Including an Ahmad Gardner interception that he returned for a touchdown. These interceptions helped disrupt UCF’s offense; which often got past the 50 yard line with ease.

Last Friday’s win is important for two reasons beyond beating a nationally ranked opponent. First, the Bearcats now rank 25th in the AP Top 25. The second reason is really the most important one. The Bearcats now have an advantage against UCF in their division. That’s important for the Bearcats conference title hopes going forward. Next up for No.25 Cincinnati, their first American conference road game of the season. Facing Houston Football this Saturday at 3:30 PM Eastern time on ESPN 2.

Cincinnati Bengals lose despite fourth quarter efforts

The Cincinnati Bengals are still winless after five games. Losing Sunday 26-23 to the Arizona Cardinals at Cincinnati’s Paul Brown Stadium. Cincinnati didn’t score a touchdown until the fourth quarter. The Bengals were down 23-9 by then; after blundering several red zone opportunities. Andy Dalton connected with Auden Tate for Tate’s first NFL career touchdown.

Cincinnati got the ball back 16 seconds later after forcing an Arizona punt. The Bengals tied the game through one of their best drives yet this season. Tyler Boyd began the drive with a good reception. Giovani Bernard brought the Bengals past the 50 yard line. In a game where he and Joe Mixon woke up Cincinnati’s dormant rushing game. Dalton and Boyd later connected for a touchdown with two minutes to go. The subsequent point after attempt from Randy Bullock tied the game at 23 all.

Cincinnati’s defense ultimately couldn’t stop the Cardinals two minute drill. With a run by rookie quarterback Kyler Murray putting Arizona in the red zone. Setting the stage for the game winning field goal from Zane Gonzalez. The Bengals will now seek their first win in an AFC North road game. Facing the Baltimore Ravens this coming Sunday at 1 PM Eastern time on CBS.

FC Cincinnati wraps up their inaugural MLS season

Sunday marked the end of FC Cincinnati’s inaugural Major League Soccer season. Wrapping up their season on the road with a 0-0 draw to DC United. FC Cincinnati finished the season with the worst record in MLS. In hindsight, FC Cincinnati’s first MLS season was unsurprisingly rough. After all, many expansion teams in various sports have terrible inagural seasons. Nevertheless, their inagural season by definition was set to be historic. Despite their record, the new chapter was enough reason for Cincinnatians to celebrate.

Cincinnati Reds make personnel changes

The first week of the Reds offseason featured some personnel changes. Most noteably, the Reds fired hitting coach Turner Ward after one season. They hired Kyle Boddy to work with Reds minor league pitchers. Boddy founded Driveline Baseball, a data-driven performance center in the Seattle area. According to MLB.com’s Mark Sheldon, Reds starter Trevor Bauer has experience training with Driveline.
