This week’s review mostly examines the Cincinnati Bengals loss to the Buffalo Bills. Plus, setting the stage for the Cincinnati Reds and FC Cincinnati’s home finales.
Cincinnati Bengals one half offense returns in Buffalo
The Cincinnati Bengals are now 0-3, after losing 21-17 to the Buffalo Bills in Buffalo on Sunday. A frustrating old habit re-emerged for the Bengals on Sunday. Their one half offense returned in the second half. Cincinnati had various games last season where their offense was only productive for one half. On Sunday, that trend re-emerged after trailing 14-0 at halftime.
Cincinnati finally found the end zone in the third quarter. Through a rushing touchdown from Andy Dalton. Culminating a drive that began with a Darius Phillips interception. Plus, a reception from Tyler Eifert that made it first and goal. Cincinnati later tied it and took a brief lead in the fourth quarter. Through a Joe Mixon touchdown and the subsequent extra point. Then gaining their only lead of the game through a Randy Bullock field goal.
Sunday was another difficult day for the Bengals defense. Bengals defenders struggled to tackle Bills quarterback Josh Allen. Geno Atkins produced the Bengals lone sack of the game. Cincinnati’s defense also failed to stop Buffalo’s game-winning drive. Culminating with a one-yard Frank Gore touchdown that squandered the Bengals second half efforts. Despite Buffalo’s drive, the Bengals still had a chance to win in the final minutes. Only to have it spoiled by a Tre’Davious White interception in the final 30 seconds.
It’s on to Pittsburgh
Next up for the Bengals, an appearance on Monday Night Football against the Pittsburgh Steelers. In what will be the first divisional game of the season for both teams. This could be the Bengals best chance in recent years to beat Pittsburgh. Both teams will go into the game looking for their first win of the season. The Steelers will go into the game without quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. That being said, Pittsburgh is rarely a team worth underestimating. Given recent history between the divisional foes and the Bengals primetime struggles.
Cincinnati Reds prepare to wrap up their 2019 season
Elsewhere in Cincinnati sports news, the Cincinnati Reds are getting ready to wrap up their season. Starting last week by wrapping up a successful road trip. Through winning two out of three against the Chicago Cubs. The Reds wrapped up last week through starting their last home stand. Losing two out of three against the New York Mets.
This week, the Reds will face the Milwaukee Brewers in their final home series. It’s one last chance for the Reds to leave an impact in the National League postseason picture. Along with being the last chance to hear Marty Brennaman call a Reds game. Brennaman will call his last Reds game after 46 years this Thursday afternoon. After the Brewers series, the Reds will travel to face the Pittsburgh Pirates to wrap up 2019.
