In this week’s review, the Cincinnati Bengals got pummeled in their home opener. FC Cincinnati and Cincinnati Football get wins on Saturday. While Eugenio Suarez enjoys a spectacular Sunday in Arizona.
Cincinnati Bengals trounced in home opener
The Cincinnati Bengals defense had a downright dismal Week 2. Contributing to a 41-17 loss Sunday in Cincinnati’s home opener. The Bengals practically let the San Francisco 49ers march down the field untouched. After producing hopeful signs that they were improving last week. Cincinnati’s defense looked more like they did last year compared to last week.
On offense, Cincinnati’s rushing game also had a terrible home debut. The Bengals had just 25 rushing yards compared 259 from the 49ers. Cincinnati quarterback Andy Dalton was sacked four times; San Francisco’s Jimmy Garoppolo wasn’t sacked at all. A bad first drive from the Bengals offense set the tone for this game. Leaving the Bengals in a position where they were effectively battling from behind.
There were some good moments for the Bengals on Sunday. Tight end Tyler Eifert scored the first of Cincinnati’s two touchdowns. Having him emerge from a game in uninjured is a triumph in itself. John Ross III scored the other deep in the fourth quarter. Following up a good Week 1 performance in Seattle.
Next up for the Bengals, a trip to face the Buffalo Bills. Next Sunday’s kickoff from Buffalo will be at 1:00 PM Eastern time on CBS.
FC Cincinnati finally wins a game
The orange and blue won their first match since July 13th this weekend. Beating the Montreal Impact 1-0 on Saturday Night in Montreal. The winning goal came just 27 seconds into the match from Allan Cruz. This was FC Cincinnati’s first shutout victory since March 24th. It was also Ron Jans’ first win as FC Cincinnati’s head coach. FC Cincinnati is now preparing for their final three road matches of the season. Starting this Wednesday against the defending MLS Cup champion Atlanta United FC.
Cincinnati Reds: Eugenio Suarez keeps up the pace in the home run race
By many measures, Eugenio Suarez had a fantastic Sunday afternoon. Hitting two home runs along with getting his 100th run batted in this season. All helping the Reds win two out of three against the Arizona Diamondbacks this weekend. The two home runs leave him tied with Pete Alonso as this season’s home run leader. He is also tied with Andres Galarraga now; for the most home runs hit in a season by a Venezuelan-born Major League Baseball player.
Those homers and an eight inning outing from Trevor Bauer were among last week’s Reds highlights. The Reds trip to Seattle earlier in the week produced some lowlights. Losing two out of three against the Seattle Mariners. Through late runs scored that spoiled otherwise good outings from Reds pitchers. Meanwhile, this week marks the end of the Reds nine-game road trip. As the Reds travel to face the Chicago Cubs for the last time this season. Along with the start of the Reds final home stand. Beginning with a weekend series against the New York Mets.
Cincinnati Football: the Victory Bell will stay in Clifton
The Cincinnati Bearcats won their 14th consecutive Battle for the Victory Bell on Saturday. Surging late in the first half after a sluggish start against Miami (Ohio) Football. Michael Warren II brought the Bearcats into the game with two second half touchdowns. Helping the Bearcats erase what was previously a 10-0 Miami lead. Warren also scored a fourth quarter touchdown in Cincinnati’s 35-13 victory. Miami will travel next to Columbus to play Ohio State Football on Saturday. Cincinnati will have a week off before facing Marshall Football at Marshall on September 28th.
